Rose on the banks of the Chiascio on a modest island, it was called Insula Vetus and successively Insula Romana.
In the VIth century with the drying up of the lake, the centre began to be fortified becoming an important castle which assumed the actual name, even though it didn't have a great important historical past.
It never develops an autonomous life, harshly contended between Assisi and Perugia, of which it depended alternatively. Subjected to the Seigniory of Baglioni in the second half of the XVth century, remained their Feud until the extinction of the family (XVIIth century).
